Threaded mold parts are specialized components designed to form internal or external screw threads on molded plastic or metal parts. These parts typically fall into two categories: threaded inserts (metal components embedded in plastic during molding) and thread-forming core/cavity components that create threads directly on the molded article surface. For injection molding applications, threaded inserts are placed over core pins prior to mold closure, allowing liquid plastic to flow around the insert body and solidify, creating permanent, strong threads with exceptional pull-out and torque-out resistance.
Unlike conventional cutting tools that rely on single-point threading or tapping, precision-machined threaded mold parts employ advanced manufacturing techniques including CNC turning, thread grinding, and EDM to achieve micron-level accuracy. For mold components such as threaded cores, unscrewing inserts, threaded cavities, and helical gear racks, these parts are manufactured from hardened tool steels (up to 58–62 HRC) and machined to exacting tolerances to ensure reliable unscrewing action and perfect thread formation. The manufacturing process encompasses turning, drilling, thread grinding, EDM, and wire EDM to deliver complete, ready-to-assemble components
Product Features
- Precision Thread Forms:Supports all common thread types including metric, UNC/UNF, Whitworth, trapezoidal, round, and multi-start threads; right-hand and left-hand threading availabl
- High-Temperature Resistance:Suitable for thermoset plastics and high-temperature engineered plastics; steel construction provides durability, though brass and aluminum are used for lower-temperature, lightweight applications
- Exceptional Dimensional Accuracy:Achieves tolerance down to ±0.002 mm for critical thread-forming surfaces and mating diameters
- Excellent Surface Finish:Thread grinding and precision EDM produce finishes as fine as Ra 0.2 μm, ensuring smooth thread release and preventing sticking
